There have been all sorts of ''gang'' movies made -
they range from the purest classics
(West Side Story)
to the crudest Z-movies there can be
(er, see that Jamaican offering
at the end of the playlist embedded above -
subject to ''availability''
and all that jazz...!)
None was ever so stylish,
well-done and well choreographed
as 1979's The Warriors.
It is not by chance that it was
for the 21st century
as a video game;
see, I am far from being alone
in remembering this one, now...!
The Warriors ''game movie''
is also included on the playlist above -
as are tidbits of a documentary
made chronicling the making of
this unique film.
We amused ourselves
both within as without the film;
hence, they're all there -
The Baseball Furies, The Lizzies,
Boyz In The Hood!
No gang measures up, though
to The Warriors!
This was ''300''
before anyone dared
adapt that tragic war story
to the seventh art!
''300'' reduced to less than 20
(very fast, too)
to the everyday grimy
IN THE CITY...!
Michael Beck and James Remar
played classic anti-heroes
who just don't and can't get along;
sure, there have been so many pairings like that,
throughout the years, in literature and cinema -
but none as believable
as this one!
And it was also nice to see
one of the two daughters
Ted Knight had,
in Too Close For Comfort,
under a very different light...!
Deborah Van Valkenburgh
- whatever happened to you?
Beck and Remar we see,
aged a tad or a lot,
in the documentary snippets -
but I don't recall ever seeing
or someone else
to have saudades about...!

Born in the Age of Aquarius, destined to seek out truths in many an art form, trained as a historian and a journalist but truly a prose-lover... Luciano is out to dispel any clichés and reinvent them all both to the tune of a little something called the truth as also to his own image - being old-fashioned, he does not mind that distinction one infinitesimal tiny bit at all...!
