1970s...1980s
Most probably the last time
that I enjoyed these make-believe titans
and the last time that I would buy into them
as if they were true ideals to live up to
rather than mass-marketing strategies
to keep their entertainment moguls
prosper and thriving...
And although I now see them all
through the eyes of a slightly-blasé
(with the four-color schema,
and its standards and practices...)
former fanboy,
I must admit to feel a pang or two
of unbridled nostalgia
when I catch a glimpse
of my former make-believe heroes,
then quasi role-models
and, truth be told,
above all else favorite toys to use
whenever I needed to release
any deep sentiment of
pent-up aggression I might have had...
(towards evil, exclusively and always!)
I am not sure that even the little boy that I was
-innocent and idealistic as I was back then-
would have gotten into any of this
- repackaging, as it is...
I truly am doubtful that even that boy
would have bought into Bats
as the best representation of the
greatest ideal to achieve of all:
true justice.
Or a martian, though a benevolent one,
as the greatest example of empathy.
(Even as a kid, I knew greater ones:
and real ones too! Saints.)
Or even Aquaman
embodiment of... honor?
As an example of royalty,
he should incarnate that,
surely - however,
even as a boy,
I had observed that
to attach too much importance
to the concept of honor
was, in fact, to sin
and give in to... vanity.
A sin is not worth fighting for
- and much less dying
or killing for.
Freedom - Flash?
Will - willpower - Lantern... duh.
Hope and Truth
- TRUTH -
Supes and Wondy?
What can two fictional tools
(that were never true favorites of mine,
quite obviously...!)
bring to the table
that would even remotely approach
true HOPE
and actual TRUTH...?
No, I am way beyond any possible grasp
these creations could have had on my
impressionable mind -
as they don't even inspire me
to practice suspension of disbelief,
which is the primary requirement
in order for their copyright owners
to access what they really want -
our wallets, yours and mine...
Nowadays all of that fluff
is considerably less inspiring
and one easily finds all the reason
anyone would ever need
to let go of the childish heroic models
we were given in the 20th century -
and to seek out new, REAL ones
- even if they no longer live
and are long gone even...
At least, these heroes' examples
are truly believable
and truly representative
of what EMPATHY
FREEDOM
WILLPOWER
HONOR
TRUTH, HOPE and true JUSTICE
really are...
1 Corinthians 13:11
When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
Porque... ter saudades das coisas
não quer dizer ser sãozinho...!
